The Russian consulate in Hurghada said in a statement: "on March 27 at about 10:00 and at a distance of 1 km from the shore, the recreational submarine "Sinbad" of the hotel of the same name sank while on a diving trip in the coral reef area.

 

The consulate continued: "in addition to the crew members, there were 45 tourists on board, including minors, and all of them were Russian citizens whose trip was organized by the company"Biblio Globus". According to initial reports, 4 tourists drowned, and most of those on board the submarine were rescued and taken to hotels and hospitals in Hurghada, and their health condition does not cause concern,"he said.

 

The newspaper "Al-Masry Al-Youm" reported that the submarine was carrying about 44 passengers and sank in front of one of the famous hotels in Hurghada, and that 6 of its passengers were killed and 9 injured, including 4 in serious condition, while 29 others were rescued.

Russian media reported that the submarine spent 45 minutes under water, before its captain lost control and crashed into a reef.

This led to its capsizing and low pressure inside, killing 6 people and injuring 9 others on board.
